About Cataract
Cataract is a condition wherein the natural lens becomes cloudy and thus causes blurred vision .The only Treatment IS replacing this lens by new lens which will be for life time .
Types Of Cataract
1. CONGENITAL CATARACT - Congenital Cataract is happen at the time of birth .
2. AGEING CATARACT - People older than 60 of age are at high risk of getting cataract .
3. INJURY/ TRAUMATIC CATARACT- An injury of eye cause of traumatic cataract .
4. DIABETES AND HYPERTENSION- People who are suffering from diabetes and hypertension likely to development a cataract .
5. STEROID / DRUG INDUCED - One can get cataract due to frequently dosages of steroid from long time .
You need to make following two decision before undergoing cataract surgery.
1. Technique of surgery 2. Types of Intraocular lens
1. Technique of surgery:- MICS OR FEMTO CATARACT - in MICS (micro incision cataract surgery) The surgeon makes very small incision for surgery by a surgical instrument (size of which is much smaller than the conventional cataract surgery . Where as in robotic cataract surgery or femto cataract surgery , The incision is made using computer programming and advanced femto laser technology .
2. Types of intraocular lens :- (IOL) Selection of IOL depends upon your investigation reports , your visual need and life style . you can choose from the following IOL types-
(A) Monofocal lens :- far vision clear , However for reading you will have to wear glasses .
(B) Multifocal lens :- ( No glasses required for far as well as near vision ). it would correct multiple errors in the eye. it allows a more clear vision compared to monofocal lens .
(C) Toric lens :- These are the premium intraocular lenses that can reduce corneal astigmatism and blurry vision. it can help correct a range of diopters of astigmatism and is the most preferred type of lenses
(D) Symfony lenses :- ( Advance version for multifocal lense ) Spectacles for near and far vision are not needed
The entire surgery takes less than 10 minutes , it is day care surgery : However you will be called on same day or next day of surgery and then one week later and medications and precaution will need to be continued for 3 weeks .
